I was really down earlier after the Lakers lost game 2. Hit the blog as usual before I call it a day and got in a slightly better mood when I saw a hefty article on Tonedeff. The read was fuckin awesome. Dope interview. Definitely the most detailed and in-depth interview about you that I’ve read. I feel like it’s been years since I’ve had that deep excitement and connection as a fan. A Piece of Strange definitely triggered it after Archetype, and of course I’ve been excited with Substantial’s success with the music video, but I honestly forgot how Archetpye made me feel years ago. It’s kinda sad cos I feel like as I get older I lose that child fan in me. This definitely brought me back and made me play Fast and Gathered again. I have a renewed excitement for CATM (that was always there), but I hope summer brings good things. I also look forward to spending any free time I have to just sit back and listen to Archetype again. I’ll probably even watch Archetexture for the 1,000th time tomorrow.

Ps. The explanation of the album cover came outta nowhere. Disappointed I never even thought about it. Cool and deep.

Wow, what a great read! I’m such a nerd, but i love deep interviews like this, the feeling of connection it incites for me, as a fan, is awesome (I see that Kags shares my sentiments as well). Fast has been my favorite Tonedeff song since about halfway through the first time I listened to it, and it’s cool to know that it’s his favorite song that he’s ever done. Also, its cool to see “Mad World” on Tone’s top 10 list of sad songs,as I’ve been listening to it nonstop over the last couple of days.

Also, the interview gave me a whole new respect for the passion that Tone has for his music, and music in general, and everything he has put into his musical efforts for us fans. I really appreciate it.

OK, I’m done geeking out now, lol.

This is probably the single greatest Tonedeff interview I have ever read.
The problem is interviews like this come across once every three years, because the interviewer usually don’t give a shit about the artist.
It’s obvious this interviewer is a true fan of Tonedeff, and the best questions comes from people who already know the answers to all the bullshit questions.. ie. “tell us about yourself”....... What? I read this interview ten years ago..

And seeing Rebekah Del Rio’s version of Crying / Llorando up on your top list was very cool. I LOVE that song. When I first heard it on “Mulholland Drive” I wept like a girl. It’s incredibly powerful.

This interview worked so well because the interviewer actually knows your career too! The questions weren’t general or vague where you can give the default answers. Great read! Gotta love how Tone got put on the spot with the sales questions too.

Great interview. He asked alot questions that nobody else has asked. The album cover thing was interesting. I was one of those who thought it was just a simple album cover with no concept. I want him to do more QN5 interviews. He seemed like a fan of CL…Im sure hes a fan of other cats on the label too

I’m the interviewer ! It’s great to see such enthusiast reactions…

Let’s be honest, y’all are probably bigger Tonedeff fans than I am – I mean, I haven’t even heard ‘Fast’! yet – so after the short interview we did in Paris, I did a LOT of reading to come up with cunning additional questions. And that’s where I have to thank Tone for taking the time to answer them seriously!

Peeped this in the early AM. The interviewer put forth (what I felt was) a challenging set of questions that demanded introspection on Tone’s part. And, as always, the man rose to the challenge.

It is often easy for those of us who don’t go through the same struggle—who haven’t invested the same “sunk costs” or foregone the same opportunities for the sake of passion—to overlook the amount of work people like Tone put into their craft. The personal stories included in this interview show us exactly how much love he has for the music, and how money does (and doesn’t) matter.

I don’t think I’ve ever gleaned as much insight into an artist’s mind from an interview as I have here. You three clearly did your homework. Kudos.

great interview. moments like this remind me why exactly i’m such a huge qn5 fan. it’s not just for the music, but also for everything that goes into the music and everything that happens after the music. the level of passion, genuineness, enthusiasm, and dedication you all put into your music is so so so so so obvious in the final product. i love how tone talks at lengths about pushing himself, breaking boundaries, being innovative, and refusing to remain formulaic. as a fan, i can’t wait to hear the growth in tone’s second solo album and chico and the man.

such a dope interview. those questions were well thought out and went way beyond the typical things that could have been asked like “how do you rap so fast?” I loved learning about the meaning behind the album cover. And Tone’s answers…I could totally see how heartfelt he was in saying it. The amount of dedication and love you put into your work does show in your music, and even just when you talk about your work. Genuine love for the art and the desire to see it grow into what it can be and more. Glad to be a fan, and can’t wait to hear Chico and the Man.

My eyes are red, dry, and burning from heat and lack of sleep; it is now almost 2:30am and I’ve just finished reading the article, a truly insightful and fantastic read. Man, you held nothing back, and I seriously respect that…always have.

Seriously, though, Chico and The Man needs to come out THIS YEAR! Call it pressure, I don’t care. Your fans await!
